Hello again and welcome. Part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle includes taking the necessary steps to get rid of or greatly reduce the many toxins and deadly chemicals that surrounds us. Detoxing your kitchen is an important step in that direction. Here are 10 easy ways to detox your kitchen for a healthier home, life and environment. By starting small you can begin to:

  1. Store food in glass containers instead of plastic.

  2. Stop using microwave oven, why? because they heat food using radiation. Opt for toaster oven instead.

  3. Replace all your nonstick pans. The family of chemicals used to coat traditional nonstick pans will not only leach into your food but they are part of the chemical group PFAS, linked to numerous health issues including cancer. We use cast iron skillet and love them. You may like it as well.

  4. Filter your tap water instead of buying plastic bottle water.

  5. Replace paper napkins and paper towels with cotton napkins and kitchen towels. Why? Because many paper towels are made with chlorine, formaldehyde, and BPA.

  6. Replace aluminum foil with beeswax wrap.

  7. Reduce your plastic use. BPA free does not mean the plastic is safe. One of the primary BPA alternatives, BPS, is a known endocrine disrupter.

  8. Switch your cooking & baking utensils to stainless steel, wooden, or silicone. They are not only healthier for you, but also for the environment.

  9. Get rid of zip lock bags. Try stasher bags instead. They are considered the best options for storing food because they are airtight, freezable and comes in a variety of sizes. You can also try, reusable silicone bags. They are made from 100% food grade silicone, which is safe for both you and the environment. Another option is beeswax wraps, made from a combination of beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin. They are compostable, so they are not only good for you, but great for the environment.

  10. Replace your dish soap with Castile soap, because most dish soap typically contains a long list of chemicals that include formaldehyde and phthalates.

We understand that ingrained habits can be hard to change, and change not only take time, it also takes practice. We first began making changes after reading the book Silent Springs by Rachel, Carson in 2020. And while we did make some major changes immediately after, we continue making small sustainable changes that we believe have been positive for us and the environment that sustains us all.

You too can start small to develop healthy, sustainable habits that not only benefits you and your family, but the environment as well. The kitchen is a great place to start because so much time is spend there. Thank you for being a part of the change. As always, we thank you for visiting us today and hope you visit often.
