Before the summer heat force you to stay indoors, why not stroll some of Houston amazing parks. We love being outdoors, so knowing where all the parks are, or as many of them as possible, is a must for our family. We get to spend time with family and friends, we get to exercise, take a break from the day to day, so we can keep stress at bay while we walk around the park instead of drive around, thereby reducing our carbon foot print. Here are a few parks we have found, love, and would like to share them with you. Here we go:

  • Levy Park - 3801 Eastside St, Upper Kirby. Thinking of going? Pack a lunch and enjoy people watching, dog watching, available games and activities, eat at any of the four restaurants located just across the street or simply sit and read a book. We love the Zumba class on Sunday mornings and the Bhangra dance classes. You can also check out the free yoga classes as well. So fun! Oh! don't forget to bring biscuits, there is a dog park.

  • Emancipation Park - 3010 Emancipation Ave and maintained by the Emancipation Park Conservancy, in the historic Third Ward Neighborhood, emancipation park, features basketball courts, baseball field, tennis courts, an aquatic center, gym, its own cultural center and theater. The 10 acres of land the park sits on, was purchased in 1872 for $1,000 by former slaves who were members of the community.

  • Elizabeth Baldwin Park - Located at 3200 Crawford St, and named after the second wife of William Marsh Rice, founder of Rice University.

  • Midtown Park - 2811 Travis St. One of Houston’s newest parks with an underground garage, performance stage, woodsy mini-trail, calming sound, and a dog park.

  • Bell Park - 4800 Montrose Blvd. Close to the fine arts museum, you can read a book or reflect on your life on one of the unique benches (one of our fave) in the shaded areas.

  • River Oaks Park3600 Locke Lane. Also known as “Pumpkin Park” is a much smaller park.

  • Menil Park1423 Branard St. Enjoy a picnics or practice Acro Yoga under the shade of the oak trees.

  • Buffalo Bayou Park1800 Allen Parkway. Connect Elenor Tinsley and Spotts parks, runs along the Buffalo Bayou with winding trails. We really love this park so much!

  • Hermann Park6001 Fannin St. If you have never rolled down the hill at the miller outdoor theater, you are totally missing out. We rolled. Totally awesome. Pure fun.

  • Spotts Park401 S. Heights Blvd. Love bats? Congrats, you have found your “Spotts” to watch the Waugh bat colony night flights from underneath the Waugh Bridge. Yikes!

  • Houston Botanic GardenOne Botanic Lane. Explore the one of a kind impressive landscape of plants, vegetation, wildlife, pretty butterflies, varying terrain, chatty birds, over active crickets, flowing water, live music and a host of other things to see within this 132-acre “rain forest like” in Houston.

  • Eleanor Tinsley Park500 Allen Parkway. Home of Fourth of July Freedom Over Texas celebration and the Art Car Parade.

  • Memorial Park – 6501 Memorial Dr. There is never a bad time of day to go to this park. There is always people there. Best. Park. Ever.
