Hello again and welcome. Today we’re talking just a bit about carbon footprint, what it is? How you contribute to it? And how you can reduce it? Carbon footprint is to the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere from your activities such as transportation (the car drive and when you travel by air), the energy you use (doing laundry, watching TV, etc), the food you eat (meat based diet) and products (plastic, toxic cleaning products that cannot be recycled) you buy.

These activities create your carbon footprint that contribute to the current environmental crises including global warming and climate change. How can you reduce your carbon footprint? The first step to reducing your carbon include paying attention to the choices you make every day.  Some of those choices includes switching to cleaner energy, waste less, and use non-toxic cleaning products with natural and organic ingredients. Here a ten (10) other ways to reduce your carbon footprint

  1. Upgrade your appliances to Energy Star appliances and LED lighting. Old appliances like refrigerator, washer, dryer AC units, and incandescent bulbs consume a lot of energy. upgrading your appliances will not only lower emissions you will spend less on your utility bill.

  2. Use less hot water.

  3. Air dry your laundry when possible. Why? Because clothes dryers are said to be among the most electricity-intensive devices in American homes.

  4. Have you ever thought of switching to renewable energy to cut your carbon emissions? If you are a homeowner, solar panel installation would be a great option. Another option would be to enroll in a renewable electricity program through your utility provider.

  5. Switch to smart thermostats and LED lights.

  6. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.

  7. Take shorter showers.

  8. Fix leaky faucets and pipes.

  9. Run your dishwasher and washing machine only when full.

  10. Decide what you want before you open the refrigerator door.

Other things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint is walk a bit more, like we do. And drive a bit less, because the largest contributors to personal carbon footprint are travel related (car and air). You can also try eating more plant based meals, using less disposable items and recycling more. By taking small steps to reduce your carbon footprint will count big against climate change.
